Penta backed a husband and wife team, Rupert and Joanna Clevely in 2006 to carry out a buy-and-build strategy in the pub sector within the M25.

With Penta’s backing, the team, widely recognised as innovators within the industry, grew their portfolio of 10 pubs to over 25. Their eclectic branding, strong team culture and refreshingly different approach to the neighbourhood food led pub experience, led to higher sales and margin growth than the industry.

This strong performance, along with the potential of a brand roll out across a much larger group, led Youngs group to pay a sector leading multiple for the group in 2010, a return of 2.4x money for Penta’s investors.
